BLSA Update for the week of Jan 30

Upcoming Events

February 4 – BLSA/LaRaza Homecoming

This is our biggest networking event of the year. Alumni will be making, for some of them, their only trip to campus this year. This is your chance to visit with alumni from BLSA and LaRaza, work the room, and see if you can make some new connections for friendship and professional contacts. You might even land a job from it! Check the link below for details.

February 13 at noon. Room TBA – Fair Trade Chocolate

Come watch a screening about potential abuses in the production of chocolate. Learn about ways to purchase chocolate made from fair practices. Potential for sampling and purchase.

February 18 – MMAP Community Service Event – scheduled to start at 11a.m. in East Palo Alto. We may have to arrive early for set-up.

In the past, this event has been targeted at helping with an art project. Because of the recent spike in youth violence, the event has been changed a little. Here are details of what we’ll be helping with.

  • The community service component will consist of 7 tables:
  • Social Networking (FB, YouTube etc. etiquette)
  • Professional Correspondence (emails, signatures, etc.)
  • Resume
  • Office Suite (emphasis on Word)
  • College Readiness (scholarship applications for Seniors)
  • Art Activity 1 (designed by Sarah)
  • Art Activity 2 (designed by Sarah)

Look for these events co-sponsored with The Center for Social Justice and Public Service

Steven B. Bright, Southern Center for Human Rights, “Race, Poverty, Innocence and Death; Injustice In America”

2. Thursday, February 23, 2012
